Places Visited: Miami (spent a day before flight to Mexico), Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Tulum
LENGTH OF TRIP: 7 days and 6 nights
HIGHLIGHTS: Mexico is a beautiful country. It was my first time out of the country, and I instantly knew that it will be an annual trip every November. November was a perfect time because the weather is not as humid as the other months and it’s not as “crowded”. I confirmed that information with a local that I befriended at the resort where my sister and I stayed. We did zip lining, ATV riding, visited the Mayan pyramids, swam in Mayan caves, and shopped on 5th Avenue (it’s like New Orleans’s Bourbon Street) near Playa del Carmen. And when we were not doing activities, we spent mornings to evenings just sitting under the cabanas near the beach right on the resort, by the pool and then ate dinner at the many different restaurants if we didn’t order room service.
TIPS: Skip Cancun, the popular “spring break” location, and get a place in Maya Riviera or Cabo or some other place. Mexico is a huge, beautiful country. There is so much to explore. You can exchange your money there. You actually get much more for the dollar when exchanging to Mexican money. Eating, shopping, activities and buying gifts don’t have to be expensive at all. And, you get great excellent cell service there. I am not even with a major network and my data and service worked fine. Mexico, like New Orleans, will be a place I visit every year.
NEXT UP: Havana, Cuba
